Managing money well requires a clear head. If your workday is chaotic — reactive, overloaded, always one fire behind — the financial decisions you make will reflect that chaos. You'll defer the review you meant to do, skip logging expenses because you're exhausted, and find yourself at the end of the month wondering where everything went.
This is why we built DayStack.
What DayStack Is
DayStack is a daily task planner built for solo professionals: freelancers, consultants, independent practitioners, people who run their own work without the structure of a large team around them.
It's free. It works offline. It stores everything locally in your browser — no account, no server, no tracking of any kind.
The goal is simple: help you plan your day with intention, protect your focus, and finish with energy left over.
Three Priority Levels, Not Five
Most task apps let you set any priority level you want. This is a trap. When everything can be "urgent," nothing actually is.
DayStack uses exactly three levels:
Do First — High Priority. Quick tasks. Under 30 minutes each. Things that genuinely need to happen today: reply to the client email, make the follow-up call, clear the compliance item that's been sitting there since yesterday. These go first because they're small enough to knock out before your brain is fully warmed up.
Block Time — Medium Tasks. Work that needs one to two focused hours. A proposal, a document, a meeting prep. This is where your morning block goes — after you've cleared the quick things and before your energy dips.
Deep Work — Big Tasks. Half a day or more. Strategy, major project reviews, anything that requires you to build a mental model and hold it for hours. One of these per day is the limit. Two is optimistic. Three is a lie you tell yourself.
The structure forces a decision every time you add a task: what does this actually require of me? That small act of classification is itself useful. It stops you adding tasks without thinking about when and how you'll actually do them.
The Pomodoro Timer and the Breathing Tool
DayStack includes a Pomodoro timer — 25 minutes of focus, 5 minutes of rest — because the research on focused work intervals is consistent and the implementation is trivially simple. You don't need a separate app for this.
It also includes a 4-round box breathing tool. This sounds like a small thing. It isn't. When you're five hours into a hard day and a difficult email lands, two minutes of deliberate breathing changes the quality of your next decision more than any productivity tip will.
These aren't features added for the sake of having features. They're there because solo professionals are at high risk of burnout — and burnout is expensive, financially and personally.
Why This Connects to Financial Health
Burnout and financial stress reinforce each other. When you're overwhelmed at work, you spend more to recover — the takeaway you didn't cook, the thing you bought to feel better about the week. When you're financially stressed, you take on more work to compensate, which exhausts you further.
Breaking that cycle requires both sides. Stand is built to help with the financial side: know your numbers, track deliberately, make calm decisions. DayStack is the daily counterpart: plan your work with intention, protect your capacity, don't spend your energy on things that don't matter.
Used together, they represent a single idea: the people who are best with money are also, usually, the people who are most deliberate with their time. Not busier. More deliberate.
How to Use It
Visit daystack.stand.money on any device. Add it to your home screen or bookmark it for tomorrow morning.
The first time you open it, you'll see three empty sections. That's intentional. Your day is blank. You decide what goes in it.
Add your high-priority tasks first — the things that genuinely need to happen. Then your blocked work. Then your deep work if you have it.
Dismiss the tasks as you complete them. Use the Pomodoro when you need focus. Use the breathing tool when you need to reset.
That's the whole system. It takes about three minutes to set up a day. The rest is doing the work.
DayStack is a free tool from the Stand team. No account required. Your data stays in your browser. If you find it useful, Stand is the financial dashboard built with the same philosophy — calm, private, and deliberately manual.
